Before I read your book, I had been on anti-depressants for 2 years. With the pressures of being a working mother with 2 young children and a busy husband, compounded by severe money worries, I had begun to find it hard to see any positive future for myself. I didn’t feel I had any ‘worth’ and no matter how often it was pointed out to me that I had a lovely family with a loving husband, I couldn’t see any positives. The anti depressants just made me feel ‘blank’ so that rather than feeling terrible, I now didn’t feel anything at all!
This didn’t help with my feelings of being an inadequate wife and mother and after a while I could no longer cope with work either. I left my job and sank further as now we had less money and I had more time to contemplate how useless I was.
When I started to read your book, I decided to take it in stages. I carried it with me in my handbag and whenever I had 5 or 10 minutes, I’d read a chapter and take the time to absorb the techniques and then put them into practice. Within the first week my husband had noticed a big change in my outlook and im thankful to say this has continued. I started to feel more positive and able to appreciate the good things I had around me, particularly my family. It felt so good to be feeling good.
I still carry the book with me and although Ive read it many many times now, I still use it as a ‘pick me up’ if I start to feel low. I find an appropriate chapter and have a read when I have 5 minutes. My husband tells me I look 5 years younger and I feel a large weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I now have a coping mechanism and a way to stop negative thoughts from becoming dominant. The difference it has made to my relationship with my children and husband is immense.
